2022/2023 ACADEMIC YEAR SPORT MEET

MILTON MARGAI TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY ANNUAL SPORTS MEET 2022/2023 ACADEMIC YEAR.
The Annual sports meet of Milton Margai Technical University was held on Wednesday 15 March and the finale on Saturday 18th March 2023, with great passion and enthusiasm at the University Athletics Field, Goderich Campus.
This is the second in a series since the institution became a university.
The students were grouped into four Halls: Juba-Blue, Adonkia-Yellow, Lakka-Red, and Lumley-Green. They entered into the spirit of the occasion grandly with oath-taking by both participants and officials which was administered by the chairperson of the sport.
Many events were conducted,including 100mtrs, 200mtrs, 400mtrs, 800mtrs, 1500mtrs race, long jump, High jump, discuss throw, Shot put, Javeline throw, 4×100 mtrs relay as well as 4×100 mtrs mixed relay.
All the students and staff took part in the events with deep determination and interest, the air was filled with cheering and encouragement for the participants from their various supporters.
The winners of track events were awarded certificates and trophies.
The Distinguished Grand Chief Patronage for this year’s event was Prof. Alpha .T. Wurie, Hon. Minister of Technical and Higher Education.
The winner for this year’s event was Lumley Hall-Green with a total point of 239, runners, up Lakka-Red with 225 points, Adonkia-Yellow 3rd with 220 points, and Juba-Blue came 4th with a point of 197.
Donations were made during the event, an alumnus pledged to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd position of this year’s sports meet, and the HR at the university also donated to the winners of the 1000m men/women.
The Head of the Department, Mr. Joseph Nyande, in his statement welcomed invitees, he thanked the university for the resounding support and pleaded with the participant to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship, and admonished the officiating team to maintain professionalism.
Earlier, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Director of Academic Affairs, Alhaji Dr. Mohamed Alie Jalloh on behalf of the VC addressed the gathering, he thanked everyone for celebrating with them, and extended gratitude to the Physical Education Department for such a brilliant preparation, he further admonished participants to maintain the spirit of sportsmanship emphasizing the prominence of sports in life and how as an institution they have tried to balance it with education, he declared the 2nd Annual Sports Meet open.
Part of the dignitaries present at the event was the Gambia College Principal Mr. Aboubacarr Jallow.
The Olympic flame (torch) which symbolizes the light of spirit, peace, knowledge, and life was held by the DCV of the university accompanied by the Registrar and was lit by the Principal of the Gambia College.
