The Goderich Campus of the Milton Margai Technical University was on Tuesday 25th February 2025, abuzz with activity as staff, students, and members of the Goderich community, gathered for a two-day medical outreach program organized by Health Care Sierra Leone USA in partnership with the Ministry of Health Sierra Leone. From 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day, the outreach provided much-needed medical services, reinforcing the university’s role as a pillar of community development.

The program commenced with an opening prayer, setting a reverent and hopeful tone for the initiative. Following this, the Deputy Vice Chancellor and Director of Academic Affairs warmly welcomed all present, emphasizing the importance of partnerships in addressing healthcare challenges and the university’s commitment to societal well-being.

A series of speakers took turns addressing the audience, each offering insights into the significance of the initiative. Among them was Dr. Pieh, who provided a detailed background on Health Care Sierra Leone USA. He highlighted the organization's dedication to improving healthcare access and shared inspiring accounts of their recent outreach efforts in Kono, Makeni, and other regions. His message resonated deeply with the attendees, reinforcing the spirit of service and the organization's mission of giving back to society.

The event reached its climax when the Vice Chancellor and Principal, Professor Philip John Kanu, delivered a heartfelt closing address. He expressed profound appreciation to Health Care Sierra Leone USA for their commitment to public health and lauded their efforts in making quality healthcare accessible to underserved communities. He extended special gratitude to Dr. Rogers, who played a significant role in coordinating the event weeks in advance.

In his speech, Prof Kanu passionately urged the medical team to consider making this outreach a continuous engagement rather than a one-time initiative. He emphasized the ongoing need for such interventions and expressed the university’s readiness to facilitate future collaborations that would ensure sustained healthcare support for the community.

As the program concluded, attendees left with a renewed sense of hope, having benefited from essential medical services. The initiative not only addressed immediate healthcare needs but also strengthened the university’s role in community engagement.
