Milton Margai Technical University (MMTU) on Wednesday, 22nd January 2025, held its official orientation ceremony for newly admitted students at the Great Hall, Goderich Campus, Freetown. The event marked the beginning of a new academic journey for hundreds of students and served as an important platform to acquaint them with the university’s academic culture, regulations, and operational structures.
The ceremony commenced with opening prayers offered in both the Islamic and Christian traditions, symbolising the university’s commitment to unity, inclusiveness, and respect for religious diversity.
Delivering the welcome address, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Director of Academic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Ali Jalloh, warmly received the new students into the MMTU academic community. He emphasized the importance of students taking their studies seriously and being fully responsible for their learning process.
Dr. Jalloh reminded them that university's education demands discipline, dedication, and personal initiative, urging them to remain focused on their courses, uphold academic integrity, and make effective use of available academic resources.
“The success of your education largely depends on your commitment and attitude toward learning,” he stated, encouraging students to be proactive, punctual, and respectful of university regulations.
The Dean of the Congo Cross Campus, Rev. Ing. Rodney Jenner Lewis, provided a brief but insightful overview of the campus and its operations. He highlighted the academic and infrastructural framework of the Congo Cross Campus, outlining its role in providing quality technical and professional education. He also encouraged students to maintain good conduct and make proper use of campus facilities.
Miss Kabia delivered a comprehensive overview of the academic and administrative operations of the University. She explained the functions of the Registry, emphasizing its central role in student records, registration processes, examinations, and academic documentation. She advised students to maintain accurate personal records and follow proper administrative procedures to avoid future complications.
Mr. Patrick Tarawally introduced the Finance Team and reminded students of their financial responsibilities to the University. He spoke on the importance of timely payment of fees and adherence to financial regulations, stressing that financial compliance is essential for smooth academic progression and access to university services.
