Faculty of Education

Dr. Brima Salieu Kamara was born in 1962 in Madina Fullah, Makeni, in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone, West Africa. He grew up in Bo City in the south of the country, attending primary education at the Seventh Day Adventist Church (S.D.A) and K.D.C Mambolo (his mother's village). He began his early secondary education at Ahmadiyya Secondary School in Bo before proceeding to Makeni City in 1977, where he completed his secondary education at Birch Memorial Secondary School and Al-Harrkan Islamic Secondary School.

His tertiary academic journey began in 1982 at Milton Margai Teachers College (now Milton Margai Technical University), graduating in 1985 with a Higher Teachers Certificate (H.T.C) in Islamic Studies, History, and related educational subjects. He furthered his studies in 1988 at Fourah Bay College (FBC), studying English Language, Linguistics, Political Science, and Biblical Studies, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree General in 1990. Between 1990 and 1992, Fourah Bay College awarded him a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (Dip-Ed).

Dr. Kamara continued his postgraduate studies at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Nigeria, where he earned a Master’s degree in Islamic Studies in 1999. He was subsequently invited by Bayero University, Kano, Nigeria, to pursue doctoral studies, receiving his Ph.D. in Islamic Studies in 2002. In 2007, he completed a one-year Arabic–English Translation Certificate Course at Qatar University, Qatar.

State & National Leadership

At the state level, Dr. Kamara served as a member of the Advisory Board of the Sierra Leone Anti-Corruption Commission (A.C.C) from 2014 to 2017. From 2016 to 2021, he also served as an Executive Member of ICESCO (Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).

Academic & Religious Service

Dr. Brima Salieu Kamara has been a dedicated educator for 46 years, 35 of which have been as a Senior Lecturer at Milton Margai Technical University, attaining the academic rank of Teaching Fellow. He has been serving MMTU (Goderich Campus) as the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Education from 2023 to the present.

On a religious level, Dr. Brima Salieu Kamara (popularly known as Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Salieu) has been an Islamic missionary for nearly five decades, including 11 years as the National Chief Imam of Jamiu'l Jalil (The Temne Central Mosque), Old Field Street, Freetown.
